Because I’ve Never Owned Or Worn A Bikini…

And even though I flubbed up my chance for this summer, I know 2013 is still a chance. So my last hour consisted of abs, arms and legs.

Squats and lunges are by far the suckiest of them all.

In other news, I bought smiley stickers for my fitness calendar. Yup, I’m getting real serious again.

    Nothing Gets Done Without Work

I stepped on the scale today and noticed that I’ve gained close to 4 pounds in the last month. So, first and foremost I’m focusing on getting the “diet” a.k.a nutrition part of my lifestyle in check. My boyfriend has a tendency to bring home everything my sweet tooth adores— ice cream, Oreos, Twix, etc— and persuade me into ordering out rather than making dinner. I worked really hard in Senior Year to get down to 160 and I’ve very obviously let myself go over the past year. Even though I find it pretty meticulous I have decided to count calories and practice portion control again. I’m pretty certain that my rouge eating ranges anywhere from 1,900-3,000 calories per day. To cut back I’m aiming for a calorie range of 1200-1550.

I’m also working on drinking a cup of tea a day (no sweetener or cream/milk!), which of course has been the easiest part so far.

My motivation is of course the one piece of the puzzle missing. I wish I had a Fit Buddy or group of Fit Buddies who could keep me in check. Unfortunately, none of my friends are very athletically inclined. It would be great if I just had a group of friends I could go running with or hit up for a bike ride around the city. =[

5 Tips To A Great Workout

    1. Make It About You: I used to be one of those who would text while on the treadmill or tried to get reading done for class while on the elliptical but while I am a great multi-tasker in every day life, I found I just couldn’t concentrate on my workout if I divided my attention. So I decided one day to disconnect and it was glorious. It was the first hour in the week that I had all to myself, and personally I believe that is what exercise is about. It’s about you. You working to make your body and yourself better, so why not dedicate all of that time to yourself? Next time you hit the gym, stash your cell in your locker and just give yourself the hour off. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
    2. Challenge Yourself: One of my favorite ways to keep a workout fun, new and exciting is to challenge myself right at the beginning. Maybe I burned 400 calories the last time I was on the elliptical, so I’ll aim for 500. Or instead of a mile, I’ll go for a mile and a half. Not only will you push yourself harder, but the high from your success while ensure you’ll get home motivated to keep it up.
    3. Take A Risk: I love strength training. Something about hitting the weights makes me feel sleek and sexy (probably because muscles make you look lean)! When I joined Blink back in October, I was too scared to hit the weight machines or the free weights (sometimes I get new gym syndrome) and it made my workouts feel bland. I needed some spice. So one day, I decided to at least do the leg press. It was one of the best risks I took.
    4. Be Your Own Motivation: Have you ever been half way through a run, thought “I can’t do this” and just quit a few minutes afterward? The mind is a poisonous devil. That’s why I always keep a visual or mantra in mind whenever I’m working out. Whether I imagine just how jaw-dropping I’m going to look like in a little black lace dress or I silently congratulate myself for going 5 minutes longer, I always make sure to egg myself on.
    5. Enjoy Every Minute: This kind of goes hand in hand with #1, but if you’re not enjoying your workout you’ll probably feel somewhat defeated. People at the gym must think I’m a real nutso because I smile so much while on the treadmill. If I need to slow down for a few minutes to just exhale and get in the zone then I do. I think about how much love and dedication I’m showing my body. Sometimes the best part of my workout is just being there, in the moment and nowhere else.

And that’s how I ensure a worthwhile workout at the gym!

    Thursday’s stats!
I’m gonna be a fitness machine by the end of the summer!
OK, OK so I’ll admit that I had pizza for dinner last night and for breakfast this morning as well as 2 Chips Ahoy Chewy chocolate chip cookies and a few spoonful of ice cream today BUT post-workout I opted for some rice, beans and salmon.
I’m working on my nutrition. It probably will never be perfect (because let’s be honest, it’s kind of depressing to never eat cookies or donuts, #1 weakness, or ice cream or pizza or fries) but I am definitely trying my hardest to make sure that it’s balanced enough to benefit me.
